Private BJJ lessons in Huntington Beach. No experience required. No fitness threshold. One session at a time.
It's the only hour of my students' day where the phone stays off and the only problem that matters is right in front of them. Most of them say that part surprised them the most.
BJJ is full-body and low-impact when taught right. No two sessions look the same. Your body figures out what it needs faster than you'd expect.
This one takes a few weeks to notice. Then you start feeling it at work, in traffic, in situations that used to throw you off. I didn't promise that to anyone. They just started telling me.
I've taught managing directors, surgeons, and startup founders who came for the workout and stayed for everything else. None of them compete. That was never the point.
Huntington Beach drew me and my wife Larissa here for the same reasons it draws most people. The water, the pace, the community. Family is at the center of everything we do, on the mat and off it.
A few of them have been kind enough to say what they found.

I've been part of Alliance my entire career. The team was founded in São Paulo by Grandmaster Fabio Gurgel and has since become the most decorated organization in IBJJF World Championship history, with 16 World Team titles. I spent over a decade teaching at the founding academy before moving here. I brought the same standard.

On the mat at Alliance HB
I started training at 13 in a small town in Brazil. No club, no structure, no roadmap. Just a gym and the decision to keep showing up.
Twenty years later I have two IBJJF World titles, nine Brazilian National titles, and two European Championship titles. I was promoted to black belt by Grandmaster Fabio Gurgel, the founder of Alliance. I spent over a decade as a senior instructor at Alliance Vila Olimpia in São Paulo before moving to Huntington Beach to lead Alliance HB.
I also create instructional content for BJJ Fanatics and built Masters da Meia, my own platform with more than 230 structured lessons. Over a thousand students have gone through the program since it launched in Brazil. I have taught over 100 seminars across Brazil and internationally.
"My goal isn't to produce champions. Though a few of my students have gone and done that anyway. What I actually care about is that you leave every session with something real."

Top Submission Wins
This is the course I built after years of people asking me to put the half guard system on paper. More than 230 structured lessons, from first principles to the details I only used to share in private sessions.
I'm working on a full English edition of Masters da Meia right now. It should be ready before the end of 2026. Leave your email and I'll reach out directly when it's live.
If something isn't here, find me on Instagram. I take a few days to get back, classes keep me busy, but I always do.
No, and that's actually the sequence most people get backwards. I build private sessions around where you are, not where you think you should be. The conditioning comes from the training itself. I've started people at much lower baselines than you're probably imagining.
It's a fair concern and one I take seriously. Private lessons mean no unknown training partners, no open mat situations you didn't sign up for. I've taught an orthopedic surgeon who trained with me for over a year without a single injury affecting his work. The way I structure sessions for people with professional constraints is different by design.
I can only speak to what I build. The standard I work from comes from Grandmaster Fabio Gurgel, and that standard is well known in Alliance. In a private lesson it's just you and me, so the environment is whatever we make it. Most people are surprised by how calm the first session feels.
Honestly, it's one of the better ages to start, for reasons most people don't expect. The game that works for a 43-year-old body is built on leverage, timing, and reading your opponent, not athleticism. That's technically richer BJJ. It takes longer to develop, but it lasts longer too.
Shorts and a fitted t-shirt. That's it. No gi, no rash guard, no gear list to check off before you've decided this is something you want to do. I'll tell you what to get if and when that makes sense.
I'll let the people who've trained with me answer that. What I can say is that I've never told a student it would change their life. They tend to come back and tell me that on their own.
Private lessons are sold in packages. The first session is complimentary when you sign up, so you train with me once before you've committed to anything. Fill out the form below and we'll walk you through the options without pressure.
